We were asked by a Portuguese client to stretch our standard Medway Doble to produce an easily rowed craft which could be carried under the bridge deck of a large cruising catamaran and used both as a tender and as a lifeboat. This version has the same easily driven hull shape which, with it’s double ends, will ride a following sea. The rudder arrangement allows a small outboard to be hung on the narrow transom top aft of the rudder stock She has built-in buoyancy compartments and stowage areas fore and aft and also under side benches. Construction takes 6 sheets of 5 or 6mm plywood and her overall weight will be around 150 lbs. (68 kg). She uses a daggerboard for simplicity but she could also have a centreboard. The simple gaff rig has a self tacking jib so that she can be sailed easily by one person.
